A derelict garage keeps its working role — car, storage — but gains a third one: a new room that serves as both studio and family space, opening fully to the yard through a wall of glass.
The addition borrows its material language directly from the house behind it — the same black mansard roof, the same blue lap-siding — so the two buildings read as one family, built at different times.
Inside, the ceiling is left open to the joists, so the sheathing plane above reads as the real ceiling — the room feels taller than its actual depth allows. It works as a studio one week, a kid's afternoon in front of the TV the next, without needing to be more than what it is.
